All residents of Japan are insured under the National Pension Plan from the time they turn 20 years old and are required to pay premiums.
However, for students, there is a "Special Student Payment Exemption System" under which the payment of insurance premiums can be postponed during the period of enrollment upon application, and a "Deferment System for Payment by Young Adults" for students who graduate without employment.

Application forms are not available at Kanazawa University. You can obtain an application form from the city or ward office, the pension office, or the website of the Japan Pension Service (JNES).
