On August 8, Human Resource Development Unit from Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative conducted a tour of the Noguchi Naohiko Sake Institute Inc. as part of Project: AERU. 14 students from Kanazawa University participated in the tour.
The Noguchi Naohiko Sake Institute Inc. was established in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, in November 2017 to pass on to the next generation the sake brewing techniques and spirit of Mr. Naohiko Noguchi, who is regarded as Japan's greatest master brewer. First, Mr. Takashi Iwai, Director of the Institute, gave a presentation on Mr. Noguchi's life, his enthusiasm and approach to sake brewing. Then, while tasting sake, the participants heard directly from Mr. Noguchi about his approach to his work and his commitment to craftsmanship.
Participating students commented: "I was impressed by the talk about the importance of following through without throwing away one decision," and "Looking at the sake brewery made me realize that it takes a lot of effort and research to make delicious sake, and I want to try various kinds of sake in the future."
In the future, Kanazawa University students will work on developing an original sake for Kanazawa University.
