For three days from July 13th to 15th, the open lectures "Creating Fresco Murals" and "Creating Mosaics" were held at the Human Society Building No. 4.15 participants ranging from high school students to those in their 80s took a part in public lecture.
At first, Professor Masaaki Omura from the Institute of Human and Social Sciences explained each technique and working process.
In the "Fresco Painting" session, students learned about fresco painting techniques of medieval Italian paintings and copied them. In addition, the students learned about the technique of peeling the painting cloth with boiling water, and restored works that had been created in the past.
In the "Mosaic Painting" session, after receiving explanations on Roman and Byzantine mosaic painting techniques, participants cut marble into small pieces, assembled tesserae with plaster, and finished each piece.
Students commented: "I think I'll look at mosaics in a different light from now. Now I have more ways to enjoy things like traveling," and "The support students were very kind to me, and I had a great time."
