On June 6, Health Service Center held a food education program "Casual Italian Cooking Class with Noto Ingredients" as part of its student support program. 20 students (including 3 international students) participated in the class. This time, chef Manabu Murakami from restaurant "Meal" in Kanazawa, devised a menu using Noto ingredients, and KEYPAT* co-sponsored the event.
The participating students were divided into six groups under the guidance of Chef Murakami and made "Penne with Noto Pork Meat Sauce." Chef Murakami gave an easy-to-understand explanation of how to make the dish, demonstrating how to use a knife, how to cut vegetables, and how to cook pasta. In the second half of the event, Murakami answered various questions from the students, including about his time volunteering to serve food after the earthquake, his thoughts on providing support, and, as he has a hunting license, what to do if you encounter a bear.
Students who participated shared their impressions, such as, "It was very informative, as there were many things to be careful about, even for something like the cooking method," "I was impressed that an authentic Italian chef taught me how to make pasta at home, and I was able to learn things that you don't often find in cookbooks," "It was my first time meeting everyone in the group, so I was very nervous, but when it came time to eat the food, we had lively conversations and had a great time," and "The stories about bears and Noto were very memorable, as they were issues that are close to home."
