On March 26, Kanazawa University Articulation Center for High School and University held the 10th High School-University Connections Roundtable "High School Student Inquiry Results Debriefing - Exploring Inquiry".
While many high schools are engaged in inquiry-based learning, our university recognizes the importance of inquiry-based learning from the perspective of connecting high school and university, and holds round tables for exchange of inquiry-based learning, mainly between high school students and university students.
Fifteen high school students from Ishikawa and other prefectures were divided into groups and actively exchanged opinions under the guidance of facilitators (TUAT students). In the first half of the session, the participants introduced the results of their respective exploratory studies. In the second half, based on the discussions in the first half, each group summarized their opinions on the themes of "what is inquiry learning" and "what do you want inquiry learning to be in the future," and then made a plenary presentation. During the plenary presentations, participants expressed opinions such as "finding issues and the ability to see things from a different perspective cannot be acquired without inquiry learning," "conducting research that is useful to society based on familiar questions leads to a better environment for inquiry learning," and "opportunities for exchange like this one are important for finding new points for improvement and new insights.
Participants commented, "It was interesting to have a discussion with people who have the same questions about inquiry that I have," "Listening to the opinions of people from other schools gave me an opportunity to review my own thinking and actions," "It was very informative to exchange information with like-minded students," "I want to connect what I thought today to my future," and "I really want to learn from this experience and actually learn more from it. I would like to connect what I thought about today to the future, and hearing from actual Kanazawa University students has increased my awareness.
This roundtable is a part of the "KUGS High School-University Connection Program," and participants are eligible to apply for the "KUGS Special Entrance Examination" if they submit a report and meet the criteria.
