On March 7, Kanazawa University Articulation Center for High School and University hosted an online KUGS Special Admissions Pre-Entrance Roundtable.
This roundtable is for students who have passed the KUGS Special Entrance Examination (graduates of the KUGS High School-University Connection Program) who will be admitted in the new academic year (please click here for more information about the KUGS Special Entrance Examination). The purpose of this roundtable was to review their studies in high school and to discuss their aspirations and concerns about university studies, in order to enhance their motivation to study at university and to build a community after entering the university.
Eleven high school students from around the country were divided into two groups for a lively exchange of ideas, moderated by a facilitator who is a senior at Kanazawa University.
In the first half of the meeting, students introduced each other's activities, such as exploratory studies and out-of-school activities, in which they were enthusiastic and aware of the challenges they faced during their high school years, and exchanged questions and impressions. In the second half, they discussed their enthusiasm and concerns for university life. When the participants from outside of Kanazawa city wanted to know the recommended spots in Kanazawa, not only the facilitators but also the participants living in Kanazawa City and its suburbs joined the discussion and stimulated conversation. The conversation was lively.
In the questionnaire after the seminar, participants commented, "It was a good opportunity for me to learn what kind of research and activities other new students are doing before entering the university," and "I was very anxious about my future university life, but listening to various stories helped me to relieve my anxiety. It was good to be able to communicate with seniors, teachers, and classmates."
The roundtable not only relieved the participants of their initial concerns, but also provided them with a good stimulus for each other.
