Event Details
The 1st Sapiens Life sciences, Evolution and Medicine Research Center Research Exchange Seminar will take place on November 18.
Paleogenomic analysis of human remains from archaeological sites (paleogenomics) has made it possible to obtain genetic information on ancient humans and to infer phenotypic traits from this information. However, unlike modern DNA, paleo-DNA must be analyzed and interpreted with caution due to the presence of postmortem damage and exogenous DNA contamination. Furthermore, many of the analytical methods used in paleogenomic studies require specific knowledge, including population genetic analysis.
Therefore, in this seminar, we will outline the basic methods and the latest research trends in paleo-DNA analysis by introducing actual data. In particular, the major topics and specific terminologies of recent paleo-DNA research, from quality control to mutation analysis and population genetic analysis, will be explained, and an overview of the basics and latest trends of paleogenome analysis will be given.
This event will mainly focus on research exchange and knowledge/technology sharing both on and off campus, and will introduce the latest trends in various research fields conducted by Sapiens Life sciences, Evolution and Medicine Research Center affiliated with the Kanazawa University Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, as well as the basic research knowledge and fundamental technologies in those fields.
