President Rustam Minnikhanov of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rector Ilshat Gafurov of Kazan Federal University, and the Delegates from Tatarstan Visit Kanazawa University

October 8, President Rustam Minnikhanov of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rector Ilshat Gafurov of KFU and 34 other delegates visited Kanazawa University and they observed the campus and attended the memorial events.

Our university is striving to train leaders who will create the future of both Japan and Russia through the “Training Program for Russia-Japan Innovative Leaders of Tomorrow” which has been selected for FY 2017 University Education Regeneration Strategy “Inter-University Exchange Project” by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The purpose of this time’s visit is to promote the friendship between Japan and Russia as well as to further enrich this program.

After the welcome ceremony by approximately 40 Kanazawa University students who has participated in the cultural exchange program in Russia, the delegation received explanation on “the Outline of Kanazawa University” from President Koetsu Yamazaki, “the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) and Nano Life Science Institute (NanoLSI)” from Professor Takeshi Fukuma, Director of NanoLSI, and “the Research on Autonomous Driving” from Associate Professor Naoki Suganuma of the Institute for Frontier Science Initiative. The Signing Ceremony of “the Memorandum for Cooperation between Kazan Federal University and Kanazawa University for Double-Degree Master’s Program” also took place. Afterward, memorial trees were planted to commemorate the visit, and the delegation paid a courtesy visit to President Yamazaki. At the meeting, there was a lively discussion about the upcoming exchanges with our university.
